- KCGS examined the trends in shareholder proposals submitted to general meetings of shareholders of KOSPI- and KOSDAQ-listed firms in Korea over the past three years and carried out an analysis focused on changes by shareholder proponent type and by shareholder proposal agenda item.



- The analysis shows that the number of companies targeted for shareholder proposals trended up in the last three years. Among shareholder proponents, the proportion of individual shareholders and minority shareholder alliances, in particular, increased. It was observed that shareholder proposal agenda items also diversified.



- Looking at the breakdown by shareholder proponent, shareholder proposals submitted by individual shareholders posted an approval rate of around 5.7% over the past three years, lower than that of other proponent groups. Shareholder proposals presented by minority shareholder alliances were also all rejected if they were submitted to the KOSPI-listed companies where the owner’s family had high ownership.
